Laureate of Nobel Award Wishes to Establish Own Foundation in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Babayeva / The laureate of Nobel Award, Vice President of St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, well-known scientist, Jores Alferov, wishes to establish his own foundation in Azerbaijan, said Azerbaijan's Minister of Communications & Information Technologies, Ali Abbasov, during the closing ceremony of the First International Conference on Material and Information Sciences in High Technologies on 28 September.

The date of establishing the foundation was not highlighted. According to the Minister, the foundation's activities will be directed towards scientific-search work in the sphere of nanotechnology in Azerbaijan.

Alferov arrived in Baku to attend the conference and delivered a report on semiconductor heterostructures - materials for energy and information technologies.

Alferov is the real member (academician) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), RAS Vice President, Chairman of Board of RAS St. Petersburg Scientific Center, Director of Physical and Technical Institute named after A.F.Joffe, member of Russia's State Duma, member of Committee on Education and Science. He was born on 15 March 1930 in Vitebsk.
