Korean company Cmentech Co. Ltd. proposed to transfer one district of Tashkent to a closed heating system, Trend reported citing Uzbek media.
According to preliminary estimates, the cost of the work will range from $70 million to $100 million.
The project was discussed at a meeting of Tashkent Deputy Mayor Bakhtiyor Rahmankulov with representatives of Cmentech Co. Ltd. and consultants of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The ADB is the exclusive consultant for the project to take over the management of Tashkent's heat supply system on a long-term lease, the message said. Its competence includes technical, legal and financial evaluation of proposals received from foreign companies.
The Korean company proposed to modernize Tashkent's heat supply systems under public-private partnership project. The priority will be the reconstruction of heating plant in Mirzo-Ulugbek district in the capital.
The district will be transferred to a closed heat supply system. There are also plans to modernize the equipment, re-lay out worn-out and emergency heat networks, and introduce smart devices for metering heat consumption and a system of intelligent heat management.
Bakhtiyor Rahmankulov stressed that these works should not lead to tariff increases. He also noted that the project should take into account investments of grant funds of the Korean government and attraction of direct foreign investments by Cmentech Co. Ltd.
The company will provide the project concept and relevant documents during the first week of February. The cost of the works, which is currently estimated at approximately $70-100 million, will be clarified after the feasibility study.
Implementation of the project will reduce gas consumption and heat loss during transportation by more than 30 percent, the report said.
