In the future, Azerbaijan may join the Great Silk Road project, which provides for sea voyages across the Caspian Sea, Kenan Guluzade, Head of the Public Relations Department of the State Agency for Tourism told Trend Oct. 10.

Guluzade noted that the project will be implemented as part of the program to develop the tourist Silk Road and is expected to cover the countries on the eastern and western shores of the Caspian Sea.

“The idea of implementing such a project is being discussed in the framework of unification of the Turkic-speaking countries, the options are being considered to attract a significant number of tourists, and the possibilities of maritime tourist communication in the direction of the eastern and western shores of the Caspian Sea are being explored," Guluzade said.

"However, implementation is not expected in the near and medium term, as this is a fairly expensive project, and requires careful study and the coordination of important issues between several countries," Guluzade added.

"It is necessary to prepare an investment decision and develop economic feasibility study, which will take a lot of time. Therefore, no specific deadlines have been set yet for the start of its implementation. This is an interesting idea, and its implementation can open up new opportunities for all participants of the project in the area of development of sea tourism", he said.
