A meeting of the Azerbaijani Tariff Council was held at the beginning of this week.

During the meeting the retail price of RON-92 gasoline was set at 1 manat (58 cents) per 1 liter while the retail price of diesel fuel - 80 qepik (47 cents) per 1 liter.

"An increase in fuel prices in Azerbaijan will not affect the services related to transport," Azerbaijani car expert Eldaniz Jafarov said in an interview with Trend.

The expert stressed that the deliberate increase in prices by entrepreneurs may contradict the legislation of Azerbaijan and all such attempts must be suppressed by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy.

"An increase in gasoline prices this year compared to last year will balance the risks of further possible losses of the companies selling fuel," Jafarov said.

"The second freight train with export goods from Turkey in transit through Azerbaijan for the first time crossed the Istanbul-Kazakhstan route segment in a record period of time - 10 days," the subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC - ADY Container LLC, told Trend.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev gave instructions on the construction of an international airport in Fuzuli district on January 5, 2021.

"There is a flat territory in Fuzuli district, as opposed to other cities and settlements, and it is very expedient to construct an airport in this district," Ilgar Velizade, head of the South Caucasus political scientists club, said.

"The construction of the airport will give an impetus to the development of towns in this district as components of an important regional transport hub," head of the club added. "The new airport in Fuzuli will allow to fully cover the air communication system of the whole country."

"In accordance with Azerbaijan’s market requirements, GPS tracking prevails in the transport sector in terms of the number of sales and applicability," founder of the Azerbaijani Safezone GPS company Saddam Alasgarov said in an interview with Trend.

"The devices are applicable not only to cars, they can also be used in the areas of monitoring ATMs, refrigerators and warehouses, as well as real estate," Alasgarov added.

One of the significant events of this week was the statement of Director General of the Baku International Sea Trade Port Taleh Ziyadov.

"Azerbaijan's aspiration to become a key multimodal and transport and logistics center in Central Eurasia is a phased and multifaceted strategy that has internal regional and global aspects," Ziyadov said.

"The Azerbaijani government invested billions of dollars in the modernization of highways, railways, ports and airports of the country," director general of the port added. "Moreover, the regional connection of Azerbaijan with Georgia and Turkey along the East-West route through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipelines and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, as well as with Russia and Iran along the North-South International Transport Corridor, allows building such prospects."

"Our country has all the key opportunities in this sphere, namely, geographical location, proximity to a big number of clients, regional connection, tax and legal incentives and a number of other advantages," Ziyadov said.

"The success of the strategy of the hub will be determined as a result of innovative and individualized actions of governments in creating a favourable environment for investments," director general of the port said.
