Iran to pursue long-term contract with India to operate Chabahar port

TEHRAN, Iran, June 22. Iran is pursuing to sign a 10-year contract with India to handle the operation and development of its Chabahar Port, deputy head of Ports and Maritime Organization(PMO) of Iran Hassan Beyk-Mohammadlou said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

"India has supplied cranes to Chabahar port that need to be installed. We should move toward signing a ten-year contract with India to use the equipment," he said.

Beyk-Mohammadlou pointed out that the temporary contract between the two countries is being reviewed at the Iranian parliament, and the PMO is seeking to solve the legal issues, and establish an authority to deal with possible disagreements over operating the port.

He stressed that Iran welcomes investors from other countries including the CIS in Chabahar port's development, but it does not mean that India will be squeezed out.
