BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 27. Cargo transit through Iran’s northeastern Golestan Province increased by 80 percent in value and 55 percent in volume during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2023), Director General of Golestan Province Customs Office Shahriar Shahriari said, Trend reports.
The customs official stated that 32,800 tons of goods worth $192 million were transited via the province in 7 months.
However, he did not specify the nature or the destination of the transited goods.
Shahriari also pointed out that the province’s customs revenue for the reporting period increased by 180 percent compared to the same period last year and reached 3 trillion rials (about $71.4 million).
Golestan Province, Iran, is located on the border with Turkmenistan.
In total, around 7.92 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran’s roads and railroads in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2023), which is an increase of 22 percent compared to the same period last year.
