ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, December 5. Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have explored the possibilities of increasing freight turnover by rail in order to increase both bilateral trade and Afghan trade with other Central Asian countries, Trend reports.
These issues were discussed between the railway administrations of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
During the meeting, the leadership of the Afghan railway department expressed great interest in cooperation with Turkmenistan on the development of the Lapis Lazuli corridor and on the creation of effective multimodal transportation schemes to increase transit potential and attract cargo flows from other countries, including India and Pakistan.
The sides discussed important aspects of improving tariff policy and pricing for transportation, the adjustment of which will contribute to strengthening the movement of export-import and transit goods through Afghanistan.
Another topic of negotiations between the two sides was the establishment of an interdepartmental exchange of current information on rail transport.
Turkmenistan is diligently striving to develop its transport sector, focusing on expanding the railway network.
As part of these efforts, the country is actively cooperating with neighboring states, including Afghanistan, to increase the volume of freight transportation by rail.
