BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8. Odessa port of Ukraine has received an international feeder vessel carrying containers for the first time since February 2022, Trend reports.
According to the Seatrade Maritime News portal, the vessel was chartered by Turkish freight forwarder Sea Pioneer Denizcilik to operate on the container line between Romanian Constanta and Odessa port on the Black Sea.
"The 373 TEU feeder vessel with cargo capacity made its first call to the port of Odessa in early April, and after unloading, it returned to Constanta. It was a trial voyage," the portal reports.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Yuriy Vaskov earlier stated that all five container terminals of the port of Odesa are ready to process containers; however, they will resume their work in stages, starting with feeder ships.
Ukraine expressed the hope that the development of feeder transportation on the Black Sea to its ports will involve Turkish operator Akkon Lines, as well as Maersk and other companies around the world.
To note, the pause in feeder transportation to Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea was due to security issues.
