Money transfers to Kyrgyzstan through Western Union decline

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, April 9. Kyrgyzstan recorded a total of 55,400 incoming money transfers through the Western Union money transfer system from October through December 2023, Trend reports.

According to the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan, this figure decreased by 1.95 percent compared to the same period in 2022 (56,500 transfers). The value of incoming transfers amounted to 2.241 billion soms ($25.145 million).

Regarding the outgoing transfers through Western Union, there were 9,300 transactions, which is a decrease of 34 percent compared to the 14,100 transactions in the same period in 2022. The value of outgoings transferred in the last quarter of 2023 summed up to 870.1 million soms ($9.7 million).

In Kyrgyzstan, a total of 1.815 million incoming transactions were made via money transfer systems during the reporting period, with the value amounting to 48.201 billion soms ($540.854 million). Outgoing transfers numbered 151,400 and were valued at 11.728 billion soms ($131.597 million).

The following money transfer systems have been operating in Kyrgyzstan in the last quarter of 2023: Western Union, Contact, MoneyGram, Unistream, Golden Crown, RIA, UPT, Astrasend, and PLUSPAY.
