Foreign ministers of CIS member states to discuss regional issues in Ashgabat

Over 10 draft documents directed towards deepening regional cooperation in humanitarian, security and other areas are planned to be considered at the regular meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers, which will be held in Ashgabat on November 1, the CIS Executive Committee reported.

Over 10 draft documents directed towards deepening regional cooperation in humanitarian, security and other areas are planned to be considered at the regular meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers, which will be held in Ashgabat on November 1, the CIS Executive Committee reported.

The draft of an agreement between CIS member states on cooperation in the material and technical support of the competent agencies, involved in combating terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism is to be considered.

According to the information, the adoption of the agreement will contribute to forming a coherent policy, including concessional terms in the field of material and technical support to the relevant agencies involved in combating terrorism and violent extremism.

A draft decision on the preparation to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the soviet people in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) is the most significant in the field of humanitarian cooperation.

The draft agreement on environmental protection in CIS member states will also be considered. The document is directed towards cooperation in environmental field, protection of land, soil, subsoil, water, the atmosphere, the ozone layer and climate, flora and fauna.

A number of statements on the new document provides for the development of international programmes and projects in the field of environmental protection and ecological safety, exchange of information on the environment, cooperation in the field of environmental technology, development, production and mutual delivery of new necessary equipment and environmental protection instruments, special funds for monitoring and prevention and management of natural and manmade disasters.

An Intergovernmental Environmental Council of the CIS member states is being created to ensure coordination in the field of ecology and environmental protection.

Under its banner, the CIS Foreign Ministers Council will consider a report on the activities of the councils' heads of state and public broadcasting organisations.

Turkmenistan will host this forum as chair in 2012. The CIS fair of consumer goods has recently been held in Ashgabat. Meetings of the CIS Intergovernmental Council on Agricultural Issues and Council for Rail Transport were also held in Ashgabat.
