BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 26. The volume of Turkmenistan's natural gas exports via the Malai - Bagtyyarlyk gas pipeline from January through July 2022 has been published, Trend reports citing Turkmenportal.
During the reporting period, 4.46 billion cubic meters of natural gas were exported through the pipeline. The bulk of this volume was exported to 25 provinces and autonomous regions of China.
High rates of gas production and export were achieved due to the fact that 18 wells were repaired in Turkmenistan in the first 7 months of this year, mainly at the Malai and Kerpichli gas fields.
Currently, Turkmen gas is supplied to China via three pipelines running along the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China route. Their total throughput capacity is 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Furthermore, an agreement was reached in February 2022 on the construction of the fourth line of the gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China. It is expected that its commissioning will allow Turkmenistan to increase annual gas supplies to 65 billion cubic meters.
Turkmenistan exported about 34 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China in 2021.
