Uzbekistan, Tashkent, September 28 / Trend D.Azizov /

By a decree of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, Zafar Ruziyev, who earlier served as Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources of the country was appointed the Kashkadarya region's (southern Uzbekistan) governor.

By another presidential decree Turabjon Jurayev, the former governor of the Kashkadarya region was dismissed.

The decrees were published in the national media of the country on Saturday.

Kashkadarya accounts for 11 per cent of the total industrial production output in Uzbekistan. More than 12 per cent of the grain and cotton is grown in this part of the country.

At least 52 per cent of the gross regional product is made by entrepreneurs and the share of employment in this sector is 77 per cent, but obstacles in the way of business prevent them from developing.

Along with the implementation of major investment projects, the region has low volumes of processing local raw cotton, as well as low indicators in the construction industry.

There is no conscious approach to the use of transit facilities and development of the infrastructure. The region lags behind the indicators reached in the country in the sphere of production of competitive products with a high added value based on the processing of local raw materials. There are also problems in the area of employment of college graduates.
