BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 11. Uzbekistan looks to boost cooperation with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Trend reports via the Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture.

The matter was discussed between Uzbekistan’s Minister of Agriculture Aziz Voitov, FAO Sub-regional Coordinator for Central Asia Viorel Gutu, and FAO Representative in Uzbekistan Sherzod Umarov.

During the meeting, the sides talked about the status of current cooperation and upcoming plans for 2023.

The parties agreed to continue joint work on mobilizing grant resources for global climate initiatives. In particular, the launch of new technologies and grant assistance projects involving the Adaptation Fund, the Green Climate Fund and the Global Environment Facility was noted as a prospective area of focus.

The sides also discussed preparations for the Global Conference on Food Security in 2023, previously proposed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the last SCO summit in Samarkand.

Following the meeting, it was decided to establish a working group with the FAO to coordinate preparations for the conference.

To date, 18 national and 15 regional projects with the FAO were implemented in Uzbekistan, which contributes to the development of the country’s agricultural sector.
