TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 5. Uzbekistan has commissioned a solar PV power station with a capacity of 1 MW at the Turakurgan Thermal Power Plant, Trend reports.

Turakurgan Combined Cycle Power Plant is a 900MW gas fired power project located in the Namangan region of the country.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, this solar PV module will cater to the plant's own energy needs.

As a result of its operation, an additional 1.9 million kWh of electricity will be generated annually. This will lead to a saving of 500,000 cubic meters of natural gas per year.

Furthermore, the excess electrical energy is sold to the regional power grid under a contractual agreement.

Uzbekistan plans to expand the number of solar panels installed on buildings and structures of social facilities and economic entities. The solar panels with a capacity of 220 MW will be installed at social facilities and government departments, at enterprises – at 1300 MW, and newly built apartment buildings – at 15 MW.

The mentioned measures to increase the country’s renewable deployment are taken within the framework of Uzbekistan’s President Resolution "On measures to accelerate the introduction of renewable energy sources and energy-saving technologies in 2023".
