TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, December 23. Uzbekistan’s Thermal Power Plants JSC plans to install 15 MW of solar panels at its enterprises by the end of 2023, Trend reports.

The news followed a press conference with the participation of representatives of the company on preparation for the heating season and the development of renewable energy sources in Tashkent.

During the meeting it was revealed that, as of today, capacity worth 9.6 MW was being used, which led to 7.2 million kWh of electricity generated.

As per the company's representatives, the new renewable energy infrastructure will help produce additional 27 million kWh of electricity, as well as help save 5 million cubic meters of natural gas per year.

Mukammadjon Bekmukhamedov, Spokesperson of Thermal Power Plants JSC, highlighted that by optimizing loads, minimizing unscheduled shutdowns, implementing measures such as acid flushing of condensers, and conducting regular and capital repairs on existing power units and combined-cycle gas installations in thermal power plants and central plants, significant savings were achieved.

From January to November 2023, the savings amounted to over a billion cubic meters of natural gas and 203.9 million kWh of electricity.

Earlier this year it was announced that Uzbekistan plans to attract $7 billion of private investment to create an additional 9 GW of generating capacity.

The total volume of necessary investments in the electric power industry is estimated at $52 billion.
