TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, December 27. Uzbekistan and the Emirati Masdar Energy Company have signed an investment agreement on the construction of a large wind power plant (WPP) in Uzbekistan, Trend reports.

The document was signed by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov and the representatives of Masdar Energy.

As per data provided by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, the capacity of a new plant is said to reach 2,000 MW, while its energy storage facilities’ capacity will stand at 1,150 MW.

Meanwhile, in 2020, Masdar and Uzbekistan signed an agreement on the design, construction and operation of the Zarafshan wind farm with a capacity of 500 MW in the Tamdyn district of the Uzbek Navoi region. Subsequently, its planned capacity was expanded to 1.5 GW.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Energy and Masdar signed an agreement for the joint development of 2,150 MW and 500 MW solar PV and wind power plant projects worth $2.6 billion.

Back in 2021, Masdar signed agreements with the Uzbek Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade, and the JSC National Electric Grid to design, finance, build, and operate three solar power plants: the 457 MW Sherabad region and 220 MW each in the Samarkand and Jizzakh regions of Uzbekistan. The company plans to put the plants into operation in 2024.
