Railroad car construction is expected to start in the near future in Ganja, Azerbaijan Railways said Sept.5

New railroad cars in Azerbaijan will be built by the Swiss Stadler.

The company continues to collect data regarding the demand of the Azerbaijan Railways for cars.

"The territory for the construction of the new plant has been already defined. Currently preparation for construction work, which will begin in the near future, is being carried out on the site," the source said.

The project on creation of a new railroad cars enterprise is very important, since it would ensure their overhaul in the country, along with the production of new ones.

Due to the lack of the necessary infrastructure in Azerbaijan for the overhaul of cars Azerbaijan Railways sends them abroad, particularly to Russia and Ukraine.

Azerbaijan Railways cooperates with Stadler also within the framework of the contract for the sale of 30 new passenger railroad cars signed in June this year. Supply of cars will be implemented by 2015.

The cars will be delivered to the republic before the commissioning of the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which is scheduled for 2015, designed to connect the railways of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. The new cars will be fitted to the rapid replacement of the pair of wheels for movement on the European tracks.

Ganja is the second largest city in Azerbaijan and is located on the west of the country 345 km away from Baku.
