Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 19
By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Turkish firms will invest in solar and wind power projects in Iran.
Hossein Sherafati-Rad, governor of Iran's northeastern city of Taibad, said Turkish firms would invest in the city's Dogharoun Special Economic Zone, IRNA news agency reported Oct. 19.
The projects are scheduled to start in the next Iranian fiscal year, which will begin on March 21, 2016, and will create 100 job opportunities.
"Some 300 million euros will be invested in construction of the power plants, which will generate 200 megawatts of electricity per hour," the official said.
Iran has the capacity to generate 40,000 megawatts of wind and solar energy, said Houshang Falahatian, the Iranian deputy energy minister.
Based on statistics of the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran, there is a potential for generating 30,000 megawatts of wind power and 10,000 megawatts of solar power in the country.
In February, Homayoun Haeri, the managing director of Iran Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Management Company (TAVANIR), said ten percent of Iran's need to electricity will be met by solar and wind power plants by the Iranian calendar year of 1400 (March 2021-March 2022). He added that solar and wind power plants will generate 12,000 MW, equaling 10 percent of the country's need to electricity.
