Iran has allocated a sum of $338 million to agricultural mechanization for the current Iranian fiscal year (to end March 20), Dean of the Mechanization Center at the Ministry of Agriculture Kambiz Abbasi has said.

He pointed out that over the past three years, the government allocated $3.3 billion to the cause, Fars news agency reported June 6.

The official said 70 percent of the fund has gone into buying agricultural machines in the farming sector, 21 percent in the horticulture sector, and 9 percent in poultry and fisheries industries.

The current administration drafted a mechanization program for a course of 12 years shortly after it took office in 2013.

As part of the program, the government will pay 30 percent subsidies to agricultural producers who use new technology.
