Iran’s agricultural exports increase by 12%

The Islamic Republic exported 2.1 million tons of agricultural products during the first five months of current fiscal year (March 20-Aug. 21), Iran’s deputy agriculture minister, Abdolmehdi Bakhshandeh, said.

The figure indicates a rise by 12 percent compared to the same period of preceding year, Bakhshandeh said, Mehr news agency reported.

He further said that the value of exported agricultural products accounted for $1.928 billion.

Iranian agricultural exports shared 4.6 percent of the country’s total non-oil exports in terms of volume and 10.11 percent in terms of value respectively, Bakhshandeh said.

Agronomic products topped the list of exports with 61.8 percent share in terms of volume, followed by horticultural products (19.9 percent) and livestock (16.7 percent), he added.

In terms of value, horticultural products ranked first with 41.1 percent share, followed by livestock (28.3) and agronomic products (25.2 percent), the official said.

Iran’s seafood exports also stood at 28, 570 tons, worth $81.41 million during the five-month period, Bakhshandeh added.

Pistachio worth $294 million was the main exported product, he said, adding that tomato paste worth $78 million, watermelons worth $73 million and yoghurt worth $71 million were the other top exported agricultural products.
