Iran-Turkmenistan co-op in ICT sphere expanding

Iran and Turkmenistan should develop cooperation in the area of information and communication technologies, the public relations department of the Iranian Information and Communications Technology Ministry quoted the Iranian Information and Communications Technology Minister Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi as saying.

Jahromi made the remarks during the meeting with the Turkmenistan’s Communication Minister Bayram Avazov on the sidelines of the TurkmenTEL 2018 exhibition held in Ashgabat, the IRNA news agency reported.

He proposed to establish a joint ICT committee for development of cooperation between Tehran and Ashgabat.

Jahromi noted that Turkmenistan is a country going through development in the area of communication and information technologies and is on the data transit route in terms of its geographical position.

The minister, mentioning the commitment of Iranian and Turkmen presidents to development of relations and contacts between the two countries, added that they are interested in development of relations with Turkmenistan in the sphere of ICT.

The Iranian minister invited his Turkmen counterpart to Iran. He also invited the Turkmen companies to participate in the Elecomp exhibition in Iran.

The Turkmen Communications Minister Bayram Avazov also noted the ongoing rapid development of communications and ICT sphere in Turkmenistan.

The relations with Iran in this sphere represent great significance for Ashgabat, he said.

Avazov said the two neighboring countries have common border with approximate length of 1,000 kilometers and Iran is in the focus of Turkmenistan as an internet transit route.

The Turkmen minister, drawing attention to laying of fiber optic line from south to north of Turkmenistan in 1997, said the cooperation between the two countries shouldn’t be limited to fiber optic cables and added that a work group consisting of specialists of the two countries should be established and that group should continuously inquire into cooperation between the two countries in the ICT sphere and the problems encountered in this area.
