Georgia, Tbilisi, July 24 / Trend, N.Kirtskhalia /
Batumi City Hall refused permission to opposition coalition "Georgian Dream" to hold mass pre-election action on the Europe Square on Aug.5.
"Coalition "Georgian Dream" asked Batumi City Hall for permission to hold pre-election action on the Europe Square. The City Hall refused permission to the coalition under the pretext that at the height of tourist season, all the central squares and parks of the city are busy from Aug.1 to 31, and suggested Angisi Stadium on the outskirts for the action, which is unacceptable for the coalition," the coalition said.
The Coalition believes that such a response would be legal only if the City Hall would have planned activities on the Europe Square prior to applying for the action. However, the City Hall's official letter does not mention such an event.
"Georgian Dream" sees Batumi City Hall's response as an attempt to prevent political activity.
On July 24 representatives of the "Georgian Dream" will meet with the authorized person of the City Hall Luka Asatiani and require one more time to provide the Batumi center to them to hold the action.
