( Civil ) - Aleksander Sukhitashvili, deputy defense minister, has resigned, Davit Kezerashvili, the defense minister, said on July 19.

He said Sukhitashvili, who was in charge of the Military Police, had cited "health concerns" for his decision to quit his post.

Sukhitashvili has always been seen as a close ally of the former defense minister, Irakli Okruashvili. Despite media speculation that he would lose his job last November, when Okruashvili resigned, he surprisingly retained it.
