US House speaker in Iraq for 1-day visit
Iraq's government spokesman says U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is in Baghdad for a surprise one-day visit to meet with the prime minister and discuss U.S.-Iraqi relations, reported AP.
Ali al-Dabbagh says Pelosi, a Democrat from California, will also meet with other Iraqi officials on Sunday.
The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad confirmed the trip and says Pelosi also will meet U.S. officials and troops in Iraq.
Pelosi has been a top Democratic critic of the U.S.-led war in Iraq. Her last visit to Iraq was in May 2008 when she met with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
