A roadside bomb explosion Sunday killed five civilians including a woman and injured six others in Lashkar Gah city, capital of Taliban hotbed Helmand province in southern Afghanistan, spokesman for the provincial administration Daud Ahmadi said.
"The bloody incident took place in Lashkar Gah this morning at around 7 a.m. as a result five civilians including a woman were killed and six others including two children injured," Ahmadi told Xinhua.
In the meantime, some locals put the number of wounded civilians to 14.
The number of casualties could rise as some injured people remain in critical conditions, Ahmadi said.
No group or individual has so far claimed the responsibility for the incident.
Taliban militants often plant roadside bombs to target Afghan and international forces stationed in Afghanistan.
Over 1,300 Afghan civilians have been killed in Taliban-led attacks throughout the post-Taliban Afghanistan over the past six months.
