Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec.3

Turkey and Azerbaijan unite Europe with Asia, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on the eve of his visit to Baku.

He pointed out that the two countries implement very important joint energy projects and one of them is TANAP, TRT Haber TV channel reported Dec.3.

"Our relations with Azerbaijan in the energy sphere are developing from day to day," said Davutoglu. "Turkey will continue to develop the relations with Azerbaijan and it is not related to the crisis in Ankara-Moscow relations."

Turkey will support Azerbaijan as before, since the two brotherly nations are bound by common culture and history, the prime minister added.

Davutoglu noted that one of the important issues for Turkey is the liberation of Azerbaijani lands occupied by Armenia.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
