By Elena Kosolapova - Trend:

The Aktobe rail and structural steel mill (Kazakhstan) will fully use its own billet and stop purchasing it abroad, Kairat Aubekerov, the chief specialist-analyst of the marketing department of the mill, told reporters.

Aubekerov made this statement at the Azerbaijani-Kazakh business forum in Baku Oct. 20.

"This will be possible due to commissioning of a steel melting workshop at the mill in 2018," Aubekerov said, adding that its construction has already begun.

"At present, the Aktobe rail and structural steel mill buys billet for its output in Russia," he said. "Using its own billet will reduce the price of output."

At the same time, the mill can fully compete on the price with big manufacturers, Aubekerov said.

"The price of the output of the mill is reasonable," he said. "Its own power plant, which fully provides the mill with electricity, has been built at the mill. Some electricity is sold."

"There will be great demand for the output of the Aktobe rail and structural steel mill as the mill is expected to supply rails for all railways to be built on the territory of Kazakhstan," he said. "The railway network of the country is being developed rapidly."

During the years of independence, over 2,500 kilometers of new railways were built in Kazakhstan.

Currently, a number of railway projects, which will help Kazakhstan develop its transit potential, are under discussion.

Negotiations are underway on constructing Russia-Kazakhstan-China high-speed railway that will reduce the travel time from Moscow to Beijing from five to two days.

The design capacity of Aktobe rail and structural steel plant is 430,000 tons of metal products per year.

The 120 meters long rails are designed for the high-speed (up to 350 kilometers per hour) railways.
