In any country, non-governmental organizations contribute to improving accountability and transparency of state institutions' activity, as well as the development of democracy and human rights, head of Baku Office of the Council of Europe, Ambassador Constantin Yerocostopoulos said on Thursday. He made this statement on Thursday presenting opinion of the Expert Council on NGO Law of the Conference of International Non-Governmental Organisations and the Venice Commission in connection with the draft amendments to the law of Azerbaijan "On NGOs", adopted in 2009.
He said there are various forms and directions of NGO activity.
"The Council of Europe is ready to cooperate with the Azerbaijani government in legislative and other spheres," Yerocostopoulos said.
