Kazakhstan will chair the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in 2012, the CSTO's Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha said following the meeting with Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev in Astana on Monday, Kazakh President's press service reported.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the priorities of future Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the organization.

"Traditionally, Kazakhstan's chairmanship is very creative and successful, thus we are confident that next year will be marked by intense activity of the CSTO and effective results," Bordyuzha said.

This year Belarus chairs at the CSTO.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance of Post-soviet countries. It was created in 1992. The CSTO charter reaffirmed the desire of all participating countries to abstain from using threat of force. Signatories would not be able to join other military alliances or other groups of states, while aggression against one signatory would be perceived as an aggression against all.

CSTO members are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
