President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree "On the transfer of the day off on the occasion of National Flag Day of Turkmenistan", which is celebrated on Feb 19, the Turkmen government said on Saturday.

According to the decree, day off is transferred from Feb 19, 2012 to Feb 20.

All agencies, enterprises and organizations irrespective of ownership have been instructed to enforce this decree.

This is done "in order to create favorable conditions for the solemn celebration of National Flag Day of Turkmenistan and the rest of the population of our country, and in accordance with the Labour Code of Turkmenistan".

National Flag Day appeared in the calendar of important dates in Turkmenistan in 1995 and is celebrated by building premieres, celebrations, and President's address to the people.

Gigh flagpole has been set in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat on the square in front of a national museum. At the time, panel with height of 133 meters and weighing nearly half a ton and measuring 52.2 by 35 meters received a certificate from the Guinness Book of Records.

Turkmen flag was adopted in 1992 and is a green flag with vertical red and burgundy stripe, on which five prominent national carpet ornaments can bee seen, with white crescent and five stars.

The use of green is not accidental, it was used in the banners of the sultans of the Seljuk empire, which arose in the Middle Ages on the territory of modern Turkmenistan. Green colour symbolizes the unity of time, symbolizes life, the earth. Crescent represents a clear sky, white five-pointed stars - the symbol of the five regions of the Caspian country.
