Iran plans to launch three satellites into space by the end of the current Iranian year (the year in Iran ends on March 20), the head of Iranian Space Agency Hamid Fazeli was quoted by the official website of the Iranian television IribNews as saying.

"In early August, we plan to launch the Kavoshgar-5 missile to a height of 120 km," he said. "There will be a 285 kilogram-load and a monkey."

He stressed that launching a capsule with a living creature is the first step to launch a person into space by Iran.

He added that the second satellite "Fajr" will be sent into space in early October and will stay in orbit for 1.5 years.

On Wednesday, Iran successfully launched its second satellite named Rassad (Observation) into orbit.

Iran successfully launched the Kaveshgyar-1 missile on Feb. 4, 2008, which was used to collect data and place the first national satellite into orbit. Tehran launched the Kavoshgar-2 rocket with scientific equipment in November 2008. The rocket took the atmospheric pressure and measured the wind speed at different altitudes.

In February 2010, Iran successfully test-fired the Kavoshgar-3 rocket, which carried one rodent, two turtles, and several worms into space and returned them to Earth alive.
Iran's first astronaut will fly into space in 2017, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said earlier.
