BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 14. More than half of Visa's payments in the CEMEA (Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region are digital payments, senior vice president and head of additional services in the CEMEA+ region of Visa Walter Lironi said during the 'Visa Cashless Forum - Digital Azerbaijan' held in Baku, Trend reports.
"Around 57 percent of Visa payments in the CEMEA region are now digital. This number has increased significantly compared to 2019, when it was 35 percent in our region," he emphasized.
According to him, there has been an increasing growth in digital forms of payment. This is propelled by the fact that consumers are increasingly using digital and mobile technologies.
"Approximately 93 percent of our consumers in Eastern Europe use mobile banking applications, and 86 percent of face-to-face payments in the CEMEA region are contactless," he added.
To note, the Visa Cashless Forum is one of Visa's main events affecting the markets of Ukraine, Georgia, CIS, and South-Eastern Europe. It is attended by experts in the field of digital payments and financial technologies.
