A soldier of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Border Patrol was killed and two soldiers were injured as a result of the shooting that took place on the Iranian-Turkish border between the IRGC and PJAK (Kurdistan Free Life Party) terrorist group, mayor of the Iranian city of Maku, Hamid Ahmadian said, IRNA agency reported on Thursday.
He said that, yesterday members of the PJAK terrorist organization tried to illegally enter Iran from Turkey. Ahmadian said shooting took place between the IRGC border guards and the terrorist and as a result several terrorists were killed.
It should be noted that 17 Iranian border guards were killed and 5 officers of the Iranian Border Police were injured as result of a shooting that took place on the Iranian-Pakistani border between the Iranian border guards and terrorists.
Aside from that, four Border Police officers were taken captive by terrorist groups.
The Iranian wing of PJAK is active in the Kurdistan province of Iran. The group's goal is the separation of Kurdistan from Iran.
According to US government information, PJAK which is active on the Iranian-Turkish and Iranian-Iraqi borders, is supported by the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) separatist group. The U.S. considers PKK as a terrorist group.
In February 2009, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury included PJAK on the list of terrorist groups. Financial sanction were imposed against the group.
