Fire at Azerbaijani Substation

Azerbaijan, Lankaran / Тrend corr P. Aliyeva / A fire occurred at the 3rd Massali (Azerbaijani region) power substation carrying 110 KW per hour and located in Arkivan village of Massali region at 10:00 p.m. May 14. The fire was finally extinguished the next morning.

As a result, the electricity supply to several regions of the southern region was suspended. To avoid any possible danger, employees of the Ministry on Emergency Situations evacuated the residents of the nearby villages

Two transformers were disabled and over 120 tons of fuel was burnt out. The extent of the damage is presently being assessed. An employee of the power grid received injuries during the incident and was taken to the hospital where his condition is said to be satisfactory.

The supply of electricity to the strategic units of the region was resumed in the evening owing to the additional grid. The electricity supply to the entire southern region (Jalilabad, Masalli, Lankaran, Astara, Lerik regions) was resumed in the morning.

Masalli is situated 200km south to Baku.
