Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr I. Alizadeh / It is impossible to charge one state body with election process in Azerbaijan, the head of Azerbaijani Parliament's Administration, Safa Mirzayev, said on 28 September.
"Improvement of the work in election committees is more important than charging one state body with election process," he said.
Several Azerbaijani political parties, including the MPs of the governing New Azerbaijan Party, suggest charging one state body with the election process. That practice is applied in developed western countries.
According to Mirzayev, in the West elections are mostly organized by Interior Ministry. "However, Interior Ministry in those countries is not just a low enforcement body. It includes local executive bodies. Azerbaijan does not have such a tradition. In Azerbaijan election process has been always directed by the Central Election Committee. Therefore, the Committee should be retained. It cannot be included into the Interior Ministry," Mirzayev said.
