Ukraine will not Allow Allocation of NATO Military Bases on its Territory – Viktor Yushenko

Ukraine is prepared to officially reject the allocation of NATO military bases in its territory, the President Viktor Yushenko stated, RIA News reported.

"If Russia is concerned about the military bases, then Ukraine will not allow it to be allocated on its territory," Yushenko stated during his meeting with the Ukrainian Diaspora in Moscow. "We are prepared to approve it in compliance with our constitutional laws," Yushenko added.

Recently, the Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Ukrainian membership to NATO as the internal affair of Ukraine. However, Putin urged Kiev to think over the possible consequences. Membership to NATO will lead to Ukraine allocating the organization with military bases or anti- rocket weapons in its territory and Russia must then target its rocket-nuclear forces against them.
