Police Detains Participants of Unsanctioned Rally in   Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 June / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The participants of the rally of the opposition Musavat party, which had been planned to be staged before the City Administration of Baku, were detained and brought to the Sabail District Police Department 9.

The exact number of detained was not informed, the Department told Trend .

Musavat attempted to stage a rally before the City Administration.

However, police prevented the rally in front of the Ichari Shehar metro station (former Baksoviet). Police have detained several participants of the rally including Afgan Mukhtarli, an employee of the New Musavat newspaper.

Some representatives of the rally managed to enter the City Administration, however they were stopped soon.

The rally representatives called upon the authorities to provide the right for freedom of assemble, which has been promoted in the Article 49 in the Constitution.

Musavat has repeatedly appealed the City Administration of Baku to allocate an area to stage a rally. However, administration proposed them to stage the rally in Bibi Eybat. The party refused from the proposed territory and made a court appeal against the City Administration.
