Azerbaijan to Give Official Start to Presidential Elections at Late July

Azerbaijan, Baku, 4 July / Trend corr E.Babayev/ Azerbaijan will give an official start to presidential elections at the end of July. "Central Election Committee will hold a special meeting in this connection at the end of July to take a decision on official start to elections," chairman of Central Election Committee Mazahir Panahov said on 4 July.

Azerbaijan will host the presidential elections on 15 October. Musavat party has already nominated its Chairman Isa Gambar, Azerbaijan Democratic Party - Sardar Jalaloglu, the Greens Party nominated Mais Gulaliyev, the Popular Front Party of Unified Azerbaijan nominated Gudrat Hasanguliyev and Musair Musavat nominated Hafiz Hajiyev. The head of the public forum For Azerbaijan Eldar Namazov stands for presidency as an independent candidate. The governing New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) will nominate country's current President Ilham Aliyev. Pro-governmental parties Ana Vatan and Social Prosperity Party intend to support Ilham Aliyev at the elections. Bloc Azadlig uniting three opposition parties (Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Citizen and Development Party, Liberal Party) intends to boycott the elections.

Panahov said that according to recent changes made in the Elction Code, election campaign shall commence 75 days before presidential elections. "Recent changes in the Election Code are of progressive character and they enable completely just and transparent elections. CEC has already built its work in conformity with these supplements and changes, several instructions have been developed for the elections," Panahov said.
