Azerbaijan parliament lifts restrictions preventing ombudsman from being elected more than once

Azerbaijani parliament adopted a bill which eliminates restrictions preventing ombudsman from being elected more than once.

Additions to the Constitutional Bill on Azerbaijani Ombudsman were adopted with 102 votes at a parliamentary meeting today.

As many as 63 members of parliament introduced signatures to the parliament amend the law. The amendment to the article 4.2 stipulates that one and same person can not be elected ombudsman more than twice and amendments to article 4.3 stipulates that ombudsman can continue his/her office if new ombudsman is not elected on the day his/her term expires.

The article 156 of the Constitution stipulates that additions to the Constitution are made by a majority of 95 votes in the form of Constitutional laws.

Such laws are put into vote twice in the parliament. The second vote is held 6 months after the first one. Constitution laws on additions to the Constitution are introduced to president for signature after both votes. 

Constitution laws on additions to the Constitution take effect after they are signed by president after a second vote.
