Lithuanian parliamentary vice-Speaker to announce in Azerbaijan the beginning of new cooperation projects

Vice-Speaker of the Lithuanian Seim, Ceslovas Stankiyavicus, will announce in Baku the commencement of the Lithuanian-Azerbaijani cooperation project within the European Union, Lithuanian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Kestutis Kudzmanas, told Trend on Sept.23.

The projects involve the use of the Lithuanian experience in adjusting the Azerbaijani legislation to the European standards and the cooperation in anti-corruption area. The projects will be implemented within the EU Eastern Partnership.

The Eastern Partnership is the Polish-Swedish initiative in the neighborhood policy, aimed at improving the EU's relations with the post-Soviet countries. The program was approved at a meeting of the EU on March 20. Eastern Partnership will cover the six countries neighboring the European Union: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. The program targets assisting talks on establishment of free economic zones and agriculture products, as well as partner and visa agreements.

The parliamentary vice-speaker will visit Azerbaijan on Sept. 23. During his four-day visit Stankiyavicus plans to meet with chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Ogtay Asadov, and members of the parliamentary friendship group, as well as with the ministries of foreign affairs and economic development to discuss the prospects of cooperation.
