The Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development has supported the Ukrainian initiative to supplement the GUAM and Baltic countries inter-parliamentary cooperation.
This was decided at the 10th meeting of the CFM of the GUAM-Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, which was held in the UN General Assembly session in New York, the GUAM Executive Secretariat reported.
In this regard, it was decided to continue work on organizing a meeting of GUAM and the Baltic States at the Council of National Coordinators.
The CFM also discussed the GUAM's cooperation with other countries and international organizations. The CFM expressed satisfaction with the level of the GUAM cooperation with U.S. and Japan and agreed on the need to strengthen the cooperation between the GUAM and Poland and the Czech Republic in specific projects.
The CFM welcomed Azerbaijan's initiative on the assumption of obligations of the coordinator-country for the Working Group on Information Technology for 2009-2010, and took appropriate action. GUAM Foreign Ministers Council approved "GUAM-US Framework Program "Improvement of the methodology and technologies of border control at the GUAM transport corridor in accordance with international standards and practices: Checking of vehicles", as well as made a decision on the extension of the Georgian presidency term in the GUAM by the end of 2009 and the 2010 budget of GUAM.
The CFM decided to hold its next meeting under the CFM-OSCE meeting in Athens in December, 2009.
