At the plenary session of PACE majority of deputies voted for the election of Secretary General. European People's Party decided to participate in elections for the post of general secretary. This was said on Monday by the head of the political group, the Belgian Deputy Luc Van den Brande at a press conference in the autumn session of the organization.
"I insisted that both candidates have provided detailed information about their programs and goals to the members of their political groups. In the afternoon, after hearings the European People's Party (PPE) has decided to actively participate in the elections. We wish that these elections are legitimate, "- he said.
Belgian deputy added that the members of the political group led by him would be free to vote for those they want.
Luc Van den Brande said that both candidates have their own potential in improving relations with Russia, but did not name specific names.
It should be noted that the European People's Party spoke at the PACE session on Monday, demanding to withdraw the holding of elections of the Secretary General from the session's agenda.
