Azerbaijan, Baku, June 11 /Trend/

The changes proposed by the ruling New Azerbaijan Party to the Electoral Code are based on the desire to improve the practice of elections and to bring it closer to international experience," deputy chairman and executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Ali Ahmedov, told the party's official website.

"If desired, the Azerbaijani authorities will guarantee, as guaranteed before, to ensure all conditions in the country during the elections. As the ruling party, NAP also wants the elections in Azerbaijan to be conducted on the basis of democratic principles, the objective expression of the will of the Azerbaijani people, maximum compliance of Azerbaijan's election practice with the international experience, and our initiative is precisely because of these intentions," said Ahmedov.

Explaining the essence of a proposal to cancel the provision of funds allocated by the state for candidates, the deputy chairman of the party said that this rule set out in the Electoral Code of Azerbaijan have been violated in all previous elections.

"The political parties and candidates participating in the election campaigns have not yet thought about returning the money received from the Central Election Commission and other polling commissions, as defined by law," said Ahmedov. There is no need to keep the provisions of the Electoral Code, which are constantly violated.

Deputy chairman of the party shared his opinion on the reduction of election campaign period. In Azerbaijan, there is an established party system, and there is no need for its political assessment. "Society is familiar with the parties, it is aware of their common views, their desires and intentions. I would say that Azerbaijan has formed electoral system. The political sympathies of society has been defined," said Ahmedov. He believes that two months election campaign and 23-day agitation campaign is absolutely sufficient.
