Azerbaijan, Baku, July 4 /Trend, M.Aliyev/
The Azerbaijani MP Asaf Hajiyev was re-elected the vice president of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), Asaf Hajiyev, who is the head of delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the organization, himself told Trend.
He said at the 37th plenary session of the Assembly, the other vice presidents were elected from the representatives of Turkey, Russia and Greece, and Secretary General of the BSEC PA was elected the representative of Ukraine Kirill Tretiak.
The attempts of the Armenian side to postpone the date of the meeting in Yerevan from June 2012 to April were prevented at the session, Hajiyev said.
"Under the pretext of elections to be held in the country in May, the Armenian side tried to hold the meeting in the second half of April in order to achieve some political objectives. But the Azerbaijani delegation, recalling that protest actions are conducted and hundreds of people are arrested before every election in Armenia, stated that in such conditions, there is no guarantee to conduct a calm meeting. For its part, Azerbaijan considers it possible to conduct the June session of the Assembly in Baku," said Hajiyev.
At the BSEC PA session, reports were delivered regarding political, economic, social and environmental spheres on the topics "The use of GMOs in the BSEC member countries: economic and environmental aspects", "Role of Parliaments in accelerating scientific and technological progress", "Compliance with international sanitary standards of WHO in the BSEC member states".
