Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has been elected the Chairman of the Coordinating Council of World Azerbaijanis at the Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis in Baku today.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has been elected the Chairman of the Coordinating Council of World Azerbaijanis at the Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis in Baku today.
The Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis also made a decision to eliminate the Coordinating Council's presidium and establish an executive committee.

Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov was elected the Executive Secretary of the Coordinating Council.

The First Congress of World Azerbaijanis was held in 2001. The congress is held every five years.
Some 1,272 persons are confirmed to participate at the Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis. The largest number of delegates and guests come from the Russian Federation - 153, Turkey - 94, Ukraine - 45, Germany - 45, Georgia - 40, the U.S. - 24, Sweden - 22 and Netherlands - 21.

Upon the presentation of Ali Hasanov, Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis, the Congress adopted four documents: "Resolution of the Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis", "Appeal of representatives of the Third Congress of World Azerbaijanis to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev", "Appeal to the World Azerbaijanis on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict" and "Appeal to the international community, international organizations, heads of state and foreign governments and parliaments."
