Ahmadinejad to introduce new ministers to parliament

The government finalized a list of ministers for new merged ministries and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will introduce his candidates to the parliament this Sunday, Mehr News Agency reported.

Mohammad Aliabadi is nominated for the Oil Ministry while Abdolreza Sheikholeslami was chosen for Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Security, Mehdi Ghazanfari as a minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, while Mohammad Abbasi is nominated for Sport and Youth Affairs Minister.

The four new ministers should receive MPs' confidence vote to be appointed as heads of the new merged ministerial bodies.

Iran's parliament approved formation of two ministries based on five ministries with 174 votes in favor, five votes against and five votes abstained.

Ministries of Cooperatives, Labor, Welfare and Social Security merged in one, while the Ministry of Commerce joined the Mines and Industries Ministry and a new ministry was formed.

Under the law, all functions and administrative powers of these ministries are transferred into two new ministries - "Cooperatives, Labor and social Security Ministry" and "Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade".
