Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will hold another round of Uzbek-Azerbaijani political consultations, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said today.

According to the ministry, the consultations will be held at the level of deputy foreign ministers in Baku on September 18, 2012. The agenda includes discussing issues of bilateral cooperation as well as exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Both presidents confirmed their intention to continue developing relations based on the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries signed in May 1996 and the declaration on the further strengthening of the strategic partnership (March 2004) during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's official visit to Tashkent in September 2010.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan were established in October 1995.

The two countries signed more than 100 documents regulating relations between the countries in various fields, including an agreement on economic cooperation for 2011-2015, scientific and technical cooperation and cooperation in the field of environmental protection. Also included is the area of information and communication technologies, humanitarian cooperation, information exchange in taxation, mutual protection of secret information and further intensifying cooperation in the field of railway transport and the development of combined transportation.
