Azerbaijan, Baku, May 23 / Trend V. Zhavoronkova /

Azerbaijan's Euro-Atlantic policy will be successfully continued, Azerbaijan's representative to NATO Khazar Ibrahim said today.

Cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO covers a variety of areas - security, emergency situations, mine clearing and reforming the military area, he told journalists in Baku.

He said that Azerbaijan continues contributing to the restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan. This work will be expanded after the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project is launched. The project will significantly expand Azerbaijan's transit opportunities, the ambassador said.

An alliance delegation plans to visit Baku in the near future. It will discuss further cooperation opportunities with the government, Ibrahim said.

Azerbaijan plays an active role in the restoration of peace and security in Afghanistan. The Azerbaijani peacekeeping contingent in Afghanistan has 90 servicemen. In 1997, the company was established as part of the Azerbaijani National Army in 1997 and then a battalion of peacekeepers.
