В"I do not see any grounds for holding rallies”, the head of the Azerbaijan President’s Executive Office Ramiz Mehtiyev told journalists on 29 September 2005, commenting on the statements of the radical oppositional parties leaders to intensify holding rallies on the eve of the parliamentary elections, Trend reports.

According to him, all issues, sounded in the rallies’ slogans, namely, holding of open, free and equal elections are stated openly by the Azerbaijani authorities. В"Therefore I think, instead of losing time for the rallies, it would be better to organize campaigning for their candidates, informing of their platforms.

They must try to convince the electors that they are real democrats and they really think of the future of Azerbaijan. But all their actions show they could not step aside from the level of 1992-1993, they were not able to make any advancements”, Mehtiyev stressed.
