HEADQUARTERS OF CIS ELECTIONS OBSERVATION MISSION TO OPEN IN BAKU

The headquarters of the CIS observation mission will open in Baku under the forthcoming visit of Vladimir Rushaylo, the head of the CIS Executive Committee to Azerbaijan scheduled for 5-7 October, Trend reports quoting Vladimir Filippovich, the adviser to the chairman of the CIS Executive Committee.

According to Rushaylo, a program of the forthcoming visit was developed jointly with the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry and now the details are under consideration. Rushaylo intends to meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the chairman of the Central Elections Commission (CEC), Mazahir Panahov. “As to plans of meeting with the representatives of the Azerbaijani opposition parties, the issue will be resolved immediately,” Fillippovich stressed.

Along with the CIS Executive Secretary representatives from the CIS countries will also arrive in Baku to participate in the long-term observations over the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan. Generally, around 200 people from CIS will observe the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, he noted.

A resolution on the appointment of Rushaylo as head of the CIS election observation mission in Azerbaijan was taken in a meeting of the Council of Permanent Representatives from member-countries in Minsk. The headquarters of the mission will set up in Azerbaijan on 5-7 October. The CIS mission will not include a representative from Armenia.
